Rock and roll has a legacy. It started by combining blues and bluegrass music, and it was all about “sticking it to the man.” For those of you who haven’t seen Jack Black’s “School of Rock,” he will tell you what rock and roll truly means and what it should stand for. Not only is rock and roll history, but it also makes great party music because everyone loves it storysavernet.
Wide Variety of Rock and Rock Bands
There are so many options when it comes to Rock and Roll. You could go in the direction of old, classic rock with bands like the Rolling Stones, or you could go for the newer and returning style of punk rock. There is a wide spectrum of rock and roll, and it is hard not to find a song for everyone on this spectrum.
The second piece to this puzzle is figuring out who will be at your party, so you can add a song for everyone on the playlist. The great part about rock and roll is that nobody will dislike what you put on. For example, if you have both a 40-year-old demographic and a 17-18 year old demographic at a graduation party, you can put Green Day or the Killers on the playlist for the young kids. You can still put the stones and Lynyrd Skynyrd on for the older guys.
Happy about Being Sad
When you think about it, most lyrics behind rock and roll music are grouped into two categories; I believe the first is celebrating sadness. Some of the most popular rock and roll songs tell extremely sad songs. For example, “House of the Rising Sun” by The Animals. This song tells a story and uses almost poetic literary devices about a young man getting in trouble. The trouble is up for interpretation, but the song details his youth, describing how his father was a degenerate gambler ninitepro.
This song has a relatively somber tone, but people still enjoy hearing it and singing along at the top of their lungs. Several other songs like this one talk about sad things that several people want. There is a common link between people sharing sadness with rock and roll music.
Sex, Drugs, and Rock and Roll
The other group that I would rope rock and roll music into, from a lyric standpoint, is sex, drugs, and rock and roll. Throughout most of the ’70s and ’80s, with the introduction of hair bands like Motley Crue, sex drugs and rock and roll weren’t just a template for a hit song; it was a lifestyle for a lot of people. Several additions to the infamous “dead at 21 clubs” were added through this period in rock and roll history.
While it may be unfortunate that these great young artists passed away, their legacy carries on to parties all over America. Their high-paced songs about throwing cares to the wind and partying all night long still bring joy to several people worldwide, and I don’t think they would have wanted it any other way.
