How to Prevent a UTI

A UTI is caused by an infection in the urinary tract. The bacteria that cause this condition multiply and cause discomfort. In the majority of cases, the bacteria enter the body via the urethra. Rarely, the microorganisms enter the bloodstream. The most common type of UTI is Escherichia coli, which can spread from the anus to the urethra. Another way to avoid a UTI is to drink plenty of fluids. Water helps remove bacteria from the urinary tract, so you should drink at least six to eight glasses a day. The more water you drink, the better. And remember, bacteria can live in the same area of the urinary tract as you do. Therefore, you should be drinking enough water to prevent a UTI.
